We are excited to announce an incredible opportunity to combine adventure and environmental impact. Hike and Plant (Eco-Titans Community) and Fusion Adventure Races will be hosting the First Capital Hike and Plant Extreme starting at the St. Joseph First Capital Park on Saturday, November 16, 2024. The adventure starts at 7am.

 

Overview

The First Capital Hike and Plant Extreme is a ground-breaking event that fuses the excitement of adventure racing with a meaningful environmental mission. Organized by Hike and Plant (Eco-Titans Community) and Fusion Adventure Races, this event will see participants navigating challenging terrains while actively engaging in reforestation efforts in some of Trinidad’s most difficult-to-reach areas.

This event is more than just a race; it is a call to action for environmental stewardship, a celebration of teamwork, and an opportunity for participants to push their physical and mental limits, all while contributing to a healthier, greener planet.

Event Objectives

Promote Environmental Stewardship: This event aims to foster a deeper connection between participants and their natural surroundings by integrating reforestation efforts into the race. Each tree planted will contribute to the restoration of local ecosystems, combatting deforestation, and promoting biodiversity.

Encourage Physical Fitness and Teamwork: By participating in physically demanding challenges, teams will be pushed to their limits, promoting overall fitness and the value of working together towards a common goal. The event is designed to be both mentally and physically challenging, requiring participants to rely on each other’s strengths to succeed.

Background of the Organizations

Hike and Plant (Eco-Titans Community): The Eco-Titans Community is a grassroots organization dedicated to environmental conservation and community development. Founded on the principles of sustainability and stewardship, Eco-Titans has spearheaded numerous environmental initiatives across Trinidad and Tobago, including tree-planting campaigns, clean-up drives, and educational programs aimed at fostering a deeper respect for nature. Through the Hike and Plant initiative, the organization seeks to merge outdoor adventure with environmental responsibility, encouraging people to actively participate in conservation efforts while enjoying the natural beauty of the island.

Fusion Adventure Races: Fusion Adventure Races was established in 2007 with the mission of promoting adventure racing in Trinidad and Tobago. Over the years, Fusion has become synonymous with thrilling, high-stakes races that take participants through some of the most scenic and challenging landscapes the islands have to offer. Fusion’s events are designed to test participants’ physical endurance, mental acuity, and teamwork. With a focus on safety, camaraderie, and pushing personal boundaries, Fusion Adventure Races has earned its reputation as the premier adventure racing organization in the region.

The Fusion team prides itself on meticulous event planning, ensuring that each race is a unique, safe and unforgettable experience. Their slogan, “When you cross the finish line, you’ll know a little more about yourself,” encapsulates the transformative nature of their events.

Event Structure & How It Works

• Teams of 4 are required to participate, so gather your team and form your squad!
• The area for the planting is less than 4km from the start and the area to replenish plants to be planted is at the 3km point requiring teams to shuttle a distance of approximately 1km
• The objective is to hike to designated locations, working together to plant as many trees as possible within a 3-hour window. The planting will follow specific guidelines provided by officials on-site.
• Starting at the St. Joseph First Capital Park located opposite Medical Associates, teams will navigate the route, crossing key intersections before reaching the jeep trail, where the main activities will take place.
• You will be directed by environmental officials who will provide instructions on the proper planting techniques to ensure successful reforestation.

Rules

• • Remain as a team at all times
  • No littering
  • No tampering with course markers
  • No unsportsmanlike conduct
  • Plants must be planted according to the guidelines provided by the hike and plant personnel on the day
  • Teams can carry

as many plants as they desire but must not damage them. Plants deemed damaged by the hike and plant officials will not be considered

• Teams can use innovative ways of transporting plants but are asked to remain away from the use of plastics
